By Grace Ssekandi, Programs Pastor – Afaayo Bible Church
Every time I look at young children, I see tomorrow. They remind me of my own childhood—when my father began discipling me. At just seven years old, he gave me the responsibility of teaching other kids how to memorize Scripture. One of the first verses I ever learned, and still hold close to my heart today, is Psalm 119:11:
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
That verse has guided me through every season of life. I truly hid it in my heart, and now I’ve devoted my life to helping other children do the same—planting God’s Word deep within them.
The words of Jesus in Matthew 19:14 continue to inspire me:
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
That verse keeps me going in children’s ministry. It reminds me that these little ones belong to Jesus and that what we do today shapes the future of the church. Many leaders overlook the crucial role children play in the growth of the ministry, but discipling them is vital. Kids have time, energy, curiosity, and open hearts ready to learn. Their minds are like blank pages—what we write on them today will shape their tomorrow.
At Afaayo Bible Church, I’m constantly amazed by what God is doing. Week after week, I watch children run through our doors, full of excitement and joy. Our church has become a bright light in the community—drawing kids to Jesus through love, fun, and connection. Whether it’s a snack, a story, a song, or a fun day filled with cake and bounce houses, every moment becomes a chance to point a child to Christ.
I’m also deeply grateful for the passionate team I get to serve with. Many of them grew up right here in our children’s ministry. Kids who once came to Jesus in our church are now adults—leaders, pastors, and worshipers transforming our community. Seeing that kind of fruit brings me so much joy and gratitude.
My passion for children’s ministry will never fade, because I know without a doubt—they are the church of tomorrow. Discipling children isn’t optional; it’s a God-given calling for every leader and parent. If we don’t disciple our children, the world will.
So, let’s rise to the call. Let’s invest our time, our love, and our faith in these little ones. Because when we plant God’s Word in their hearts today, we’re shaping a generation that will carry His light into the future.
